For Mon July 9:
Past Project
- Bring in something you've made, a past work, some piece of writing, a project, etc. to share with the class. Be prepared to talk about its content and form.
Library Book
- Go to one of Yale's libraries (or the public library) and check out a book.
- At the library, use their photocopiers to scan 16 pages (or 8 spreads) from your book. If you're having trouble with the machine, ask a librarian for help. You should be able to send the scans to yourself in an email.
- Using only plain HTML, you will compile and organize your scans into a series of linked webpages.
- Devise a system for navigating through those webpages. We should be able to navigate both forwards and backwards through your scans. Remember, strangeness or a unique system is an added bonus.
- Include a page briefly describing what about the book attracted you and its metadata. Maybe its typography, content, binding structure, layout, etc.
Tip: Try using different nesting structures in your HTML or experimenting with more than a few different HTML tags. There are plenty to choose from, and the results may surprise you.
You can yse orbis.library.yale.edu to look up books too!
